About Kristen Halverson
Kristen Halverson is a children’s author, strategic leadership scholar, educator, and ocean conservationist whose work inspires young readers to protect the world’s waters. Her twenty-six books draw from Hawaii’s ocean culture, global travel, and her deep love of animals, including wildlife, equine, and feline stories. A TEFL- and TESOL-certified educator, Kristen teaches SAT prep, college essay writing, creative writing, ESL, business global communication, and HR-related language skills. When she isn’t writing or teaching, she enjoys exploring coastal environments and spending time with her rescued horses, who continue to inspire her work.

A passionate advocate for ocean safety and marine conservation, Kristen will embark on a 2026 speaking tour with her book Kai’s Ocean Magic, promoting sea turtle conservation, snorkeling awareness, and essential ocean safety practices for families and children.

Beyond the Waves is the 2nd book in a lyrical children’s series about a young orca named Solène, exploring family, growth, and care for the ocean. Each story introduces age-appropriate learning about orca behavior, marine environments, and essential survival skills in the wild.
ENVIROMENTAL CHALENGES FOR ORCAS
Orcas in the Pacific NW face growing threats from pollution, loss of prey, and changes to their ocean environment. Declining salmon populations make it harder for many orcas to find the food they need to survive. Increased boat traffic and noise pollution can disrupt communication, hunting, and the family pod bond.

Sea turtles have long inspired my love for the ocean, especially through my experiences swimming alongside them in Hawaiian waters. Kai’s Ocean Magic follows a young girl who is called to educate others about the importance of protecting sea turtles. This story blends wonder and adventure.
