About Kristen Halverson
Kristen Halverson is a children's book author, strategic leadership scholar, educator, and ocean conservationist whose work inspires young readers to protect the world’s waters. Her twenty-six books, including several marine life books, draw from Hawaii’s ocean culture, global travel, and her deep love of animals, featuring wildlife, equine, and feline stories. As a TEFL- and TESOL-certified educator, Kristen teaches SAT prep, college essay writing, creative writing, ESL, business global communication, and HR-related language skills. She also engages in library programming that focuses on marine life education. When she isn’t writing or teaching, she enjoys exploring coastal environments and spending time with her rescued horses, who continue to inspire her ocean conservation books.

As a children's book author, I aim to highlight their journeys across vast oceans, which reveal strength, intelligence, and deep family bonds. ENVIROMENTAL CHALENGES FOR ORCAS
Orcas in the Pacific NW face growing threats from pollution, loss of prey, and changes to their ocean environment. As a children's book author focusing on marine life education, I understand that declining salmon populations make it harder for many orcas to find the food they need to survive. Additionally, increased boat traffic and noise pollution can disrupt communication, hunting, and the family pod bond. It's crucial for library programming to include marine life books and ocean conservation books, which can help raise awareness about the challenges these magnificent creatures face.

Inspired by real orca behavior, Beyond the Moon is the final book in this orca series and entails a quiet celebration of leadership, belonging, and family. Solene is growing up within her orca pod, learning the rhythms of the sea and the strength of togetherness.

My love for the ocean has been greatly inspired by sea turtles, particularly through my experiences swimming alongside them in the beautiful Hawaiian waters.
